Electrification and CO2 Reduction

We see the future process industry with more precise control of conditions, more real-time process monitoring and control, and the use of renewably sourced electricity. In this context our company mission is to deliver step-change improvements in productivity and quality through our continuous flow electric processing technologies.

Our electric heating technologies give a more precise application of heat, eliminating the inefficiencies of conventional jacketed pipes and vessels, and enabling the switch away from oil and gas to renewable electricity.

Heating Process Design

We specialise in the design of continuous flow heating systems for bespoke applications. We work with you to select the appropriate heating technology and system configuration. This will depend of the process material properties, required operating temperature and pressure, heating rate, and any plant constraints.

We will design an integrated system, complete with heat recovery, pre-heating stages and automatic control system.

Applications Include:

  • Continuous Flow Chemical Reactors
  • Catalyst Bed Reactors
  • Formulated Product Processing

Heating Technology Selection

Our continuous flow electro-heating technologies are suitable for a wide range of process fluids including high viscosity liquids and slurries and at up to 250 °C and 30 bar as standard.

Our technologies feature:

  • Automatic process control algorithms
  • Real-time process control through measurement of temperature and conductivity
  • Unrestricted flow paths for viscous or heterogeneous materials
  • Elimination of fouling on heat exchanger surfaces

Microwave and Ohmic Heating are volumetric heating technologies, meaning that the process fluid is heated directly, and not via heat transfer from a hot surface. This eliminates the thermal gradients that are a feature of conventional jacketed heating vessels, pipes and heat exchangers. Instantaneous power control gives precise temperature control for minimised side reactions and reduce product spoilage.

Cartridge and band heaters transfer heat to the fluid through a heated surface and are suitable for applications that do not have particular requirements for minimised thermal gradients from hot surfaces, or for high power densities. They will suit many continuous processes that on not have particular or demanding requirements.

Reduced Costs

Continuous electrical heating technologies support reductions in operating cost compared to batch methods.

Compared to batch processing the pressure containment and associated engineering in our continuous systems is focused on a much smaller volume of process material. This translates into significant advantages:

  • Reduced material wastage during start-up and shut-down cycles
  • Reduced plant footprint
  • Reduced cleaning requirements
  • Reduced material inventory requirements
  • Integrated heat recovery and pre-heating
  • Flexibility in scale up by modular addition

The flexibility of scale inherent to our designs allows easy scale up and efficient operation at various scales.

Improved Product Quality

When product quality is adversely affected by the high temperature gradients or hot-spots associated with conventional approaches then our continuous electrical heating technology is a suitable alternative. We offer:

  • Precise temperature control using our proprietary electrical power control systems
  • Very rapid heating rates through much higher power densities
  • A greater range of operating temperatures and pressures than batch processes
