As leaders in electrochemical solutions, we have developed a suite of novel technologies addressing the current and future issues for the decontamination of nuclear plants. Our electrochemical approach delivers a step change in the decontamination of metals and organic matter.
These proprietary nuclear decontamination technologies are protected by a patent portfolio and are for the treatment of radioactively contaminated metal and organic waste materials. They have been developed in partnership with the National Nuclear Laboratory, with the objective of commercial deployment at Sellafield UK, before making them available internationally.
Our aim to achieve widespread and significant reductions in the risk and cost of decommissioning nuclear facilities around the world.
EASD removes the contaminated surface layer of metalwork which includes the interior surfaces of process piping and vessels, and allows for the safe handling and disposal of decommissioned plant. This technology has been actively demonstrated at Sellafield and is proven to significantly increase the rate of nuclear decontamination of steel whilst significantly reducing the volume of waste effluent generated.
ELENDES is designed to oxidise multiple batches of contaminated organic materials, mineralising the organic content to be released as gases, retaining the metallic radionuclides in a concentrated acidic effluent that is then suitable for conventional downstream processing. This giving the ability to dispose of the solvent safely and sustainably once it has reached the end of its usable life, this is a critical enabler for nuclear fuel recycle. The technology has undergone active trials at Sellafield which provided a firm foundation for progression to further scale-up of the technology.
